Shilpa Rao Continues To Enthrall Us With Her Soulful Voice

Shilpa Rao, a youngster from Jharkhand has made it big in the world of play-back singing of the Hindi Movie Industry, with her soulful voice and sheer hard work.

She comes from a simple middle-class family based in Jamshedpur. Her mother, R. Shyamala works with Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB), while her father S. Venkat Rao is with Tata Motors. Shilpa Rao attributes all her success to her father, who has a degree in music and always encouraged her to pursue her singing career.

A meeting with the famous singer Hariharan, when she was still a teenager, helped her overcome her doubts and she decided to doggedly pursue and try to make a career in the world of music. Inspired by her mentor Hariharan Uncle, she decided that she would be sincere in learning and honing her musical skills.

She needed a bigger stage for that so she decided to move out of Jamshedpur to the city of dreams, Mumbai. So, after finishing her schooling from Little Flower School in Jamshedpur, she shifted to Mumbai, to pursue her college education along with her desire to gain foot-hold in the highly competitive Music Industry.

At Mumbai, looking for singing opportunities, she started small, by recording Advertising Jingles; but that proved to be a great decision on her part. As she came into contact with the leading Music Directors like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, Vishal-Shekhar, Rajat Dholakia, et al during those recordings.

In fact, Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy gave Shilpa, her first singing break in the movie Salaam-E-Ishq and she recorded the song ‘Saiyaan Re’. Nonetheless, her song ‘Tose Naina Lage’ from the movie Anwaar was released before the maiden song and it became a big hit. Since then she has only forged ahead and in short span of 5 years, she has given us, quite a few unforgettable hit songs, including couple of our favorite songs.

1. ‘Khuda Jaane’ from the ‘Bachna Ae Haseeno’

2. Ek Lau’ from ‘Aamir’

For a young girl born and brought up in Jharkhand, she has come certainly a very long way, but she knows that she has miles to go before she can rest.

We wish her many more chart-busters.
