5 Questions Addressed To Our Members of Parliament-Lok Sabha From Jharkhand

In every Lok Sabha (L.S.) election, defying the dictates of heavily armed Maoists who ask Jharkhandi citizens to boycott these parliamentary elections, the common people risk their lives (especially in rural areas), to line up in the election booths to cast their precious votes in favour of their candidates of choice. Yet soon after the declaration of election’s results, overwhelming majority of the elected M.P.s forget about their promises made to the electorate / people of Jharkhand.

In the last Lok Sabha elections held in 2009, the following candidates won the elections from our state and made many promises.

According to the intellectuals, Jharkhand has earned aptly named sobriquet, “the Rich land of Poor people” in the last 11 years. When Jharkhand was carved of Bihar in 2000, at that time most of the common Jharkhandi denizens had hoped that their state being mineral rich state, it would develop at a faster pace as it has all the necessary natural resources, viz., big industrial units, ample quantity of minerals, natural scenic beauty, et al. But in 2011, dreams of Jharkhandi remain shattered.

Sadly for the people of Jharkhand, the performance of many of the above names M.P.s too is far from satisfactory; as the following data suggest.

As the above named M.P.s are the representatives of Jharkhandi people in the House of the People (Lok Sabha). We take this opportunity to raise five simple queries on behalf of their electorate, the common people of Jharkhand, who are unhappy with their representatives in parliament.

  1. Why common Jharkhandi feels cheated and have sense of let down by their political leaders in the last 11 years?
  2. According to us Jharkhand faces plethora of problems, out of these problems, the “Poor-Governance” and the “Corruption” top the list. How can we fix these problems in Jharkhand?

Though one could say in their defence that these M.P.s are not involved in the governance of Jharkhand State. Hence they can’t really be blamed for the failures of Jharkhand Government. So we should ask the following pertinent questions to our M.P.s.

  1. What have you done for your constituency and your state after you have got elected to Parliament?
  2. Why don’t we hear your voices more often in Parliament asking pertinent questions on Jharkhand and its citizens?
  3. What are your future plans and vision for Jharkhand and its people, both in short-term and long-term?

During the election campaigning, the candidates visit us with their folded hands and make all kinds of promises. All kinds of sentiments are being exploited to win the all important Lok Sabha elections at all cost, viz., religious, castes, language, et al. But after the elections the winning candidates forget their big promises, their duties towards voters and do a magical vanishing act interspersed by few sporadic appearances in their respective constituency.

Among the 14 giant leaders listed in the above table, we would be really surprised if anyone attempts to introspect and honestly answer these 5 questions for the benefit of the electorate. Our doubts stem from the fact that in Jharkhand, there are huge gaps between the tall promises made to the voters and the harsh ground.
